SCP expands support for radiologists in training
SCP Radiology has extended its commitment to radiology education in South Africa by sponsoring Stellenbosch University registrarsโ access to Medality, a premier online training platform for radiologists. This is in support of a new agreement by the Radiological Society of South Africa (RSSA) to implement Medality’s education and talent development programย in South Africa. SCP is a proud and long-standing member of the RSSA.
This also builds on the practiceโs existing support for radiology registrars at the University of Cape Town (UCT), marking another step in fostering the professional growth of radiologists in the region.

Enhanced learning opportunities
Medality, formerly known as MRI Online, is renowned for its extensive library of case-based video courses and simulation-based learning tools. The platform is designed to complement traditional training programs by offering radiologists practical, expert-led learning in various subspecialties, including musculoskeletal imaging, cardiac imaging, and neurodegenerative diseases.
At Stellenbosch University, the program officially launched on 6 November 2024, following an announcement by SCP Radiology representatives, Dr Jean de Villiers and Dr Salomine Theron, during a visit to the university. Dr Christelle Ackermann, Head of Division: Radiodiagnosis at Stellenbosch, expressed her appreciation for the sponsorship, calling it โa wonderful privilegeโ in a public post after the official handover.

A growing legacy of support
SCP Radiologyโs collaboration with Stellenbosch University is an extension of its ongoing sponsorship program at UCT. Last year, SCP began supporting radiology registrars at Groote Schuur Hospital with access to MRI Online. The initiative, led by UCTโs Head of Radiology, Professor Sulaiman Moosa, supplemented the universityโs training by providing registrars with a resource to accelerate their mastery of diagnostic imaging.
Dr Jean de Villiers, Managing Partner at SCP Radiology, emphasised the importance of investing in healthcare education. โWell-trained healthcare professionals are vital to South Africaโs future. Supporting registrars through platforms like this ensures they gain the knowledge and experience needed to excel in their field.โ
This initiative aligns with SCP Radiologyโs broader commitment to supporting academic institutions and promoting excellence in healthcare. As the program unfolds, registrars at both universities are hoped to benefit from the enhanced learning opportunities Medality offers, setting a foundation for continued growth.
