Fees and billing FAQs

Information for private and medical aid patients.

What would you like to know?

We have covered most of the questions we frequently receive from patients, and have categorised them for medical aid-funded and privately funded patients.

Answers you can expect to find include information about medical aid, fees, payments, branch locations, and the people who will be taking care of you. ย

Medical aid-funded patients

Who will be taking care of me?

Apart from a warm and efficient welcome from our receptionists, a qualified radiographer will make you comfortable before managing your procedure. The images are then studied by a highly skilled radiologist โ€“ a doctor who has specialised in this field โ€“ who then provides your clinician with an accurate report and expert insights. Does SCP charge medical aid rates?โ€ฏ

Yes, we charge the specified medical aid rates for most procedures as defined by your particular medical scheme.โ€ฏย

Can I get a quote for my procedure?

You can request a quote by filling out this online form or by contacting the branch you want to visit and supplying them with the referral note to ensure correct quoting.

Please note that the quote is an estimate only, as additional consumables may be required during the procedure.ย  ย

Should I talk to my medical aid scheme prior to a procedure?

We subscribe to medical aid rates but we suggest that you confirm with your medical aid whether a co-payment will be required or, where applicable, if the procedure will be covered by your savings. ย

โ€ฏWhen is pre-authorisation required?โ€ฏ

CT and MR scans, and certain interventional procedures, require pre-authorisation.

As a convenient service to you, SCP will assist you in obtaining pre-authorisation by providing the necessary tariff and ICD10 codes to your medical scheme prior to the procedure.

Pre-authorisation remains the responsibility of the patient, however, and is not a guarantee of payment from the medical aid scheme. The responsibility to settle the account rests with the patient.

Will my radiology fee get added to my GP or clinicianโ€™s invoice?

No, SCP is an independent practice and will invoice you directly.ย ย

Are claims submitted directly to the medical aid scheme?โ€ฏ

Yes, we do submit directly to the medical aid scheme. Please note, however, that it remains the patient's responsibility to ensure that the claim reaches the fund in the prescribed period, and that settlement of the account remains the responsibility of the patient.โ€ฏย

What happens if my savings are depleted?โ€ฏ

Unfortunately, you will then be liable for the full amount levied.โ€ฏย

Will a hospital plan cover my radiology fees?โ€ฏ

No, you will need to fund the fees in full.

If I must cover a shortfall, how can I make a payment?

You can pay via EFT, credit card, debit card, cash, Snapscan or walletdoc.ย  ย
