Welcoming new radiologists to SCP

SCP Radiology has had the privilege of welcoming new radiologists through the course of 2022.

Dr Arthur Winter

Dr Winter joined the practice on 1 August, having previously practiced for 23 years as a Partner at Burger Radiologists in Gauteng. He completed his MBChB at the University of Stellenbosch and subsequently completed his radiology training at the University of Pretoria.

He worked in interventional radiology under Prof. Pieter Fourie and completed training in neuro-intervention at the University of Toronto.

He has spent the last 12 years as head of the general interventional and neuro-interventional unit at Unitas Hospital in Gauteng. He is also a former president of the South African Neuro-Intervention Society.

Dr Jaco du Plessis

Dr Du Plessis also joined SCP in August, having previously been a Partner at Scholtz and Partners in Gauteng for the last 12 years. Dr Du Plessis completed his MBChB at the University of the Free Sate and subsequently specialised in radiology at the University of Stellenbosch in 2009.

Dr Du Plessis was previously part of the managing executive at Scholtz and Partners and brings with him a wealth of experience in radiology. He has specific interest in musculoskeletal imaging and serves on the exco of the Radiological Society of South Africa and is a prior secretary of the RSSA.

Dr Nardus van Rooyen

Dr Van Rooyen rejoined SCP Radiology after having spent a year completing a Fellowship in Abdominal Imaging at the University of Calgary, Canada.

Dr Van Rooyen completed his MBChB at the University of the Free State in 2005. He subsequently spent time working in general practice, including five years in Alberta, Canada.

He specialised in radiology at the University of Stellenbosch in 2021 and recently became a Fellow of the Royal Canadian College of Physicians and Surgeons (FRCPSC).

He previously worked at SCP from March to May 2021, prior to moving to Calgary to complete his Fellowship. He will now be functioning as an abdominal imaging subspecialist in the SCP group.

SCP Radiology welcomes new radiologists to the practice.

Dr Vishesh Sood

Dr Sood obtained his undergraduate qualification in 2011 and his radiology qualification in 2020, both from the University of Cape Town.

After completing his radiology training and spending a brief period at SCP, he left for Canada for a one-year Fellowship in cardiothoracic imaging with the University of Toronto before returning to South Africa and to SCP.

He has an impressive academic track record which includes the Rhône-Poulenc Rorer Medal from the College of Diagnostic Radiologists of South Africa and inclusion in the Oxford University Elective Programme, as well as research grants, several co-authored papers and conference presentations.

Dr Danie Meintjes

Dr Meintjes is an experienced radiologist from the Eastern Cape and has been contracted to assist at SCP, focusing mainly on cross-sectional imaging.

He obtained his undergraduate qualification from the University of Stellenbosch in 1984, his radiology qualification in 1993 from the same institution, and many years of invaluable experience while working as a Partner at Bayradiology in Gqeberha.

Welcoming a new Partner

SCP Radiology further had the privilege of welcoming Dr Henno Schoombee as Partner.

He is a familiar member of SCP Radiology’s team of radiologists, where he has been working as an assistant since 2019.

Dr Schoombee obtained his MBChB undergraduate qualification at the University of Pretoria in 2001 and completed his internship at Groote Schuur Hospital and community service at Wesfleur Hospital in Atlantis.

From 2005 to 2014 he worked as a clinical specialist in emergency medicine in Essex, UK.
He then returned to Groote Schuur, where he completed his radiology training through the University of Cape Town in 2019.

Dr Schoombee is currently working towards obtaining his Diploma in Musculoskeletal Radiology (EDiMSK) from the European Society of Musculoskeletal Radiology and is now working as Partner in SCP’s MSK subspecialist team.
