SCP Radiology is advertising for a Registered Nurse who will be based at an in-hospital branch in Malmesbury. The successful candidate will be responsible for all nursing duties in the radiology department to ensure a clinical service of the highest standard, excellent patient care, and efficient workflow.


  • Grade 12.
  • General nursing diploma or degree.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a medical practice.
  • Basic knowledge of radiology, angiography, anaesthesia, and theatre.
  • ICU and/or emergency experience will be advantageous.
  • Must be in possession of an “Advanced Life Support’ certificate.
  • Must be a member of SANC.
  • Bilingualism.
  • Driver’s license and own reliable transport.
  • Professional integrity and reliability with a strong sense of responsibility.

Duties and Key Responsibilities:

Patient care and intervention

  • Assisting radiographers with IV cannulation.
  • Managing all emergencies and allergic reactions within the department, alongside the radiologist.
  • Assisting with patient care in the department (before, during and after procedures).
  • Assisting radiologists with interventional procedures (CT, ultrasound and fluoroscopy).
  • Obtaining blood results prior to procedures (INR, U&E, etc.).
  • Administering conscious sedation and monitoring patients throughout procedures.
  • Catheterisation of patients.

Health and safety

  • Representing radiology in regular Health & Safety, IPC & SHE meetings.
  • Implementing health and safety protocols with health and safety representatives in department.
  • Ensuring the department’s health and safety files are up to date at all times for Department of Health visits.
  • Assisting HOD with annual health and safety walkthrough conducted by the Department of Health.

Staff support

  • Conducting staff training on emergency trolley access, oxygen & suction, blood pressure, pulse, hand hygiene, documentation, PPE, infectious diseases, etc.
  • Updating staff records and files on Hepatitis B.
  • Administering annual flu vaccines.

Stock control and regular checks

  • The RN will be responsible for ordering scheduled drugs.
  • Conducting weekly audits of drug books (scheduled drugs received, balances).
  • Conducting daily checks on oxygen and suction.
  • The RN will be responsible for stock on the emergency trolley.
  • Ordering of stock and medication for MRI anaesthetic lists (if applicable).
  • Checking and ordering interventional stock.
  • Checking and ordering stock in the first aid box.
  • The RN may assist with stock takes within the branch.


  • Any other duties that may be allocated by immediate supervisor from time to time.
  • No after-hour shifts.

SCP Radiology was established in the 1950s by radiology pioneers Drs CJB Muller, DD Keet and JA Beyers.

We have 240 employees, including nurses, administrative staff, close to 30 radiologists and 120 radiographers.

SCP Radiology has 18 branches in the Western Cape, covering Cape Town’s CBD and Northern Suburbs, the West Coast, Breede River Valley and Cape Winelands regions.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, SCP Radiology introduced a contactless facility for outpatients in Brackenfell.
